The Feldenkrais Method

The Feldenkrais Method of body education uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways of living the life they want. The underlying philosophy of Feldenkrais is that everyone has an innate capacity for correct, graceful, and efficient movement, and the method helps them to rediscover this ability. Regular practice results in increased range of motion, flexibility, and coordination, and often also results in improved thinking, emotional regulation, and problem solving capabilities.

Benefits of the Feldenkrais Method may include: improved sports performance, reduced joint and back pain, improved posture, faster recovery from surgery, stress relief, better balance, and improved sleep patterns.

Feldenkrais practitioners understand movement problems and how to help you make a permanent change to better ways of moving. Feldenkrais emphasizes small movements, performed very slowly and gently, which helps people understand their habitual movement patterns and change to new ones. The focus on slow, gentle movements makes it a particularly good approach for older people and people who experience chronic pain.

At Synergy Healthcare in Spokane Valley, Feldenkrais is used by Nora Graebner, PTA and Heather Shipley, DPT.

Nora’s (a retired PTA) Story of Feldenkrais

Feldenkrais. I admit, I had never even heard the word, nor did I have any idea, WHO or WHAT it was prior to my sister, Nancy’s experience. Nancy was involved in a serious motorcycle accident, that resulted in a “below- the-knee” amputation several years ago. In the course of her Read more
