Everything that moves in and out of our body does so through fluids, and anything that must move around within our body does so within fluid. Even the air we breathe enters our body after passing across a thin layer of tissue inside our lungs and diffusing directly into our blood. Without the fluid of our blood, our body could not receive the benefit of the gaseous oxygen that we breathe, some 20,000+ times per day. Knowing this, it begins to make sense that the health of the fluids in our body (i.e. blood, lymph, cerebrospinal fluid, etc.) has a direct correlation to the health of the entire organism. (You wouldn’t water a garden with sewage water, right?) And the health of the fluids in our body is directly influenced by what we put into our body (as well as other factors to be discussed in later posts). If we provide our body with highly acidic, high sugar, chemical-laden soft drinks, coffees, and alcoholic beverages then the fluids of our body will become more acidic and our body will suffer the burden of excessive sugar intake and chemical insult. “Soda has a pH of about 1.5 and normal blood pH is between 7.2 to 7.4 It takes 32 glasses of alkaline water at a pH of 9 to neutralize the acid on ONE 12 oz can of soda. Most people don’t drink that much water, and if they do, it’s just regular water, not water that has been alkalinized. So in order to keep your blood at a neutral pH, your body uses the only thing it has to buffer that acid…the calcium from your bones. For every can of soda, your body withdraws 20mg of calcium from the bones.” www.unhinderedliving.com (For reference purposes only, neither author nor Synergy Healthcare endorses or are affiliated with the organization or other information on their site. The site has not been reviewed by any member of Synergy Healthcare) Calcium from our bones provides the blood with alkaline mineral to quickly reduce the pH of the highly acidic soft drink and prevent significant damage to other tissues of our bodies. For comparison, it’s safe to assume that the average tap water (or even bottled water) has a pH of between 6.5 and 8.5 thereby making the amount of water needed to neutralize one can of soda even greater than water with a pH of 9. As for 32 glasses, that’s TWO GALLONS of highly alkaline water to balance ONE CAN (12 ounces) of soda. It’s important to know that if we want to truly be healthy we should not be consuming “foods” that have such dramatic and far reaching negative effects on our health. It’s not “just a can of soda,” it’s biological devastation. The concern about “unhealthy foods” is greater than just calories and blood sugar, it is about total body functioning. Keep your fluids healthy. Give your body a chance to heal and you’ll be surprised at what your body can do.
