Education of our patients is a standard practice at Synergy. Because they have the time to listen, our therapists are often able to learn quite a lot about their lives: their daily activities, exercise habits, and the level to which they understand and take care of their bodies. This in-depth knowledge allows us to provide exercise and stretching regimens that are customized to each patient’s abilities. Also, we can educate them effectively about the nature of their injury or illness and how it impacts their lives. Our goal is not only to relieve their current pain complaint, but also to give them the knowledge and the physical awareness to prevent future injuries.
The philosophy of Synergy Healthcare is very comprehensive. We believe that the whole person needs to be examined. Diet, activities, hobbies, work, family support and stressors all impact ones physical well being. Therefore, we believe in one small step at a time rather than a complete overhaul. Ever wondered why you can’t stay on a diet or exercise program? Too many big steps and too much change too quickly. We start with one or two things to change about your life style that will give you the biggest bang for your buck.
Try drinking more water. Generally we don’t drink enough water. There is a lot of controversy about how much to drink. Unless you have liver or kidney issues, we recommend working up to 1/2 your body weight in ounces. so, if you weigh 150 pounds, you probably should consume 75 ounces of water. WHOA! that’s a lot but if you are working up to it then great! More in this case is better. I’ve only had to tell one person in all my years of practice to drink less water. Again, if you are on lots of medications or have a serious medical condition, you should consult your doctor.
But this would be one good small step to improving your health. Less soda pop… more water, less coffee… more water, and ditch the energy drinks and try this new found remedy for getting more energy…..it’s called sleep.
